A lot of salon software comes with some kind of reporting built in. But how useful that reporting is can vary a lot from platform to platform.
In our experience working with thousands of salons over decades, a few things make the difference in how much your reporting actually helps you run the business.
- Reports that go beyond the basics: The best software gives you a deep library of built-in reports that go well beyond total sales and appointment counts. You’ll get ready-to-run reports on profit by service, retention by stylist, revenue lost to unbooked appointments, and much more. And those reports use the terminology salons use, so nothing feels borrowed from another industry.
- Customizable KPI definitions: Some of the numbers your software reports aren’t simple counts. They’re based on choices, like how much time can pass between visits before a client no longer counts as retained. The best software lets you make those choices yourself instead of accepting whatever the software decides by default.
- A complete view of each stylist’s numbers in one place: You should be able to see everything about one employee (retention, average ticket, productivity) in a single report, instead of opening five or six separate reports and piecing it together yourself.
- Combined reporting across locations: If you run more than one location, you should be able to see performance across all of them in one place, rather than having to export and combine each location’s numbers by hand.
- Role-based views of the numbers: The numbers that matter to a stylist aren’t the same ones that matter to an owner. Good software shows each person their own, instead of one dashboard built for everyone.
- Numbers that update in real time: The numbers that feed into your reports should always be current, which is only possible when booking, payments, and reporting all run on the same system.
In this guide, we look at five salon analytics software options, so you can see how reporting differs from one platform to the next. We start with our own software, Meevo, because we know it best. We designed it to have reporting that’s in-depth and easy to read and act on.

1. Meevo
Meevo is a salon software that manages and organizes your whole operation within one system. It ties booking, payments, and employee management to reporting, so the numbers you see come straight from what’s happening day to day.
To help you dial in on what’s driving results, our software provides 150+ reports that break performance down to a high level of detail. You can:
- Customize them to match how your salon actually works
- Pull data that would normally take several reports into one screen, so you’re not piecing information together yourself
Because a salon has a lot of moving parts, you need more than basic metrics and reports to see what’s moving the numbers. It’s the difference between “sales were down this month” and knowing exactly which stylist’s retention dropped, which service is losing money, or how many clients are overdue for a rebook.
Plus, the way Meevo is set up, you see the numbers the moment you log in, already sorted to what matters to you instead of having to go looking for them.
Below, we get into exactly what that looks like, starting with the reports themselves and how you can customize and access them. Then, we share some information on our point of sale (POS) and booking features, showing how they work together to keep your schedule full and protect the revenue those reports are tracking.
Meevo’s 150+ Built-In Reports, Plus a Way to Track Details Specific to Your Salon
The data that feeds into Meevo’s extensive library of built-in reports comes straight from booking, payroll, and checkout (which we cover later in this article). And because Meevo was built for salons from the start, every report uses the terms you already use rather than generic business metrics relabeled for the industry.
Here are some examples of what those reports can tell you:
- Growth Indicators Analysis puts new-client retention, repeat-client retention, frequency of visit, average ticket, and productivity for each employee into one report, instead of making you open five or six separate reports and compare them yourself.
- Detailed Client Retention shows whether past clients came back within a set window that you determine. By default, it looks at clients who visited four months ago and checks if they returned within the following three, but you can adjust both numbers. Some salons define retention on a three-month window, while others use six. With Meevo, your report will show what makes sense for your business.
- Sales Statistics compares this week or month to a past period, like the same month last year, so you can tell if a number is a real revenue trend or just a seasonal swing.
- Service Profitability Analysis shows the actual profit percentage on each service, based on what it costs to perform. You see which services are worth doing, not just which ones sell the most.
- Missed Opportunities adds up the revenue you lost when wait-listed clients never got an appointment. Meevo logs each one automatically, so you can see how much business you’re turning away and follow up with those clients directly.
- Appointment Recall Listing lists clients who are overdue for their next visit, so staff can reach out and get them on the books again.
- Sales Analysis by Location compares sales across all your locations in one report. You can also group locations together, so a regional manager can pull numbers for just the sites they’re responsible for instead of the whole company.
These are just some examples. Almost any question you can ask about your salon, from which products sold and which sat on the shelf all year to which stylist brings in the most new clients, has a report behind it.
And if there’s something you want to track that Meevo doesn’t have a field for (for example, whether a client has purchased extensions before), you can create the field yourself, and it can be worked into your reporting.
Customized and Advanced Dashboards to Easily View Your Numbers
Beyond the reports themselves, Meevo gives you control over how the numbers reach you and your team.
- Advanced Dashboards bring together KPIs and data that would normally take several separate reports, like client demographics, appointment traffic, staff turnover, and membership activity, and present them on one screen as visual charts and graphs. This helps you see patterns without having to dig through each report to spot them.
- Smart Center gives each staff member a customized dashboard showing the numbers that matter to that role. It’s the first thing they see when they log in. An owner might show salon-wide sales and new-client counts, while a stylist shows their own rebooking rate and today’s schedule. For an owner, that accessibility means the business’s vital signs are in front of you every day, so you can analyze and address a slow week or a retention dip right when it happens.
- With our goal tracking feature, you set targets (such as rebook rate, average ticket, new clients per month) for the business or individual staff. Progress can show up right on each person’s Smart Center dashboard, so a stylist can see how close they are to their rebook goal every time they log in.
- You can schedule the reports you run often, like payroll or month-end financials. Once you schedule them, they run automatically, so they’re ready when you need them.
- The Meevo BI app brings reporting to your phone. You can view business and employee data, compare numbers across time periods or locations, and set security access levels that control which numbers each staff member can see right in the app.
The less work it takes to see your numbers, the sooner you can act on them.
Reporting that Comes From Your Salon’s Day-to-Day Activity
A report is only as accurate as the records behind it. In Meevo, those records are a natural byproduct of simply running your salon.
Every booking is tied to a client profile, which contains their service and purchase history, special notes, package balance, loyalty points, and gift cards. This not only allows the front desk staff to pull up a full history in one place instead of digging through past tickets, but it means your reports are all built on that same complete record.
Employee records are built the same way. Staff clock in and out in Meevo, and Meevo’s payroll tools calculate their wages under whatever pay structure you use, whether that’s hourly, salary, commission, or tiered and sliding scales. This way, reports on productivity and service profitability are based on real labor data.
Payments feed in the same way, too, running through MeevoPay, our own built-in payment processor. Transactions are recorded against the right client, employee, and service the moment the ticket closes. There’s nothing to export or reconcile, and your sales numbers are never waiting to sync up.
Most salon software handles checkout through third-party integrated payment processing. That puts a second company between you and your data. Because MeevoPay is ours, payments, booking, and reporting run as one system, with the same company responsible for all of it. As a result, Meevo can always help with any question that comes up.
Other Meevo Features that Help You Grow Your Business
Reporting tells you what the numbers are, but our POS and booking features push those numbers in the right direction.
POS and Revenue-Driving Features
Meevo handles every checkout through MeevoPay, and we guarantee uptime of 99.95% (in practice, it’s usually even higher). That means the system is always up when a client is ready to pay, so they’re never inconvenienced by downtime.
Tipping runs through the same checkout. MeevoTips shows clients suggested tip amounts and pays staff the same day, straight to a digital wallet. The suggested amounts raise tips by around 22%, and the same-day payout makes a difference to staff.
Meevo also builds revenue-boosting features into the daily workflow:
- Reorder reminders appear to staff at the register when a client is probably running low on a product they’ve bought before. That way, your staff can suggest it to them without having to rely on memory.
- The automated wait list fills open slots when someone cancels. Clients join the list with the dates and times they can come in, and when an opening lines up, Meevo texts them on a first-come, first-served basis until the spot is filled. Unless a client specifically requests a call, the whole process happens automatically.
- Inventory automation updates your stock counts with every sale and tells you when to reorder before a product runs out. It bases order quantities on how fast each item sells, so you don’t miss sales because a bestseller is gone, and you don’t buy more of a slow product than you can sell.
- MeGo, our branded client app, includes an in-app online store where clients can buy gift cards and products, and push notifications let you promote retail specials straight to their phones.
Booking Features That Keep the Appointment Book Full
Many of the numbers in your reports, like retention and productivity, start at the appointment book.
Meevo’s booking tools make it easy for clients to schedule appointments while reducing work for staff. Clients book through your own branded booking page, which you can connect to “Book Online” buttons on Google Search and Maps.
Salons using our online booking system see a 60% higher booking conversion rate.
While they book, add-on prompts suggest related services, raising average tickets by 10 to 20%. You can also require a deposit or card on file at booking. Salons that use deposits have essentially eliminated no-shows.
Staff work with a color-coded, drag-and-drop appointment calendar, with icons that show details like whether a client is new, returning, or a VIP. That way, the front desk can greet clients personally without even opening their profile.
Our tools automate a majority of the follow-up work that would otherwise fall on staff, and speed up the parts they still do by hand.
- Intelli-booking learns how long each client’s service actually takes with each stylist and remembers that amount of time for future visits. This helps eliminate unnecessary gaps in the schedule.
- Appointment reminders go out automatically, and they can be customized to your own voice, so the text a client gets sounds like your salon, not like software. Clients confirm with a quick reply, and if they can’t make it, the message includes a link to reschedule on their own instead of having to call in. These reminders reduce no-shows by up to 20%.
- Convobar®, our patented AI-powered search bar, lets staff type or speak plain language and go straight to the screen they need instead of clicking through menus. For example, to get to a specific report, you don’t need to know its name. You’d just type or say a few words describing what you’re looking for, and Meevo takes you there.
Booking runs in the same system as your reporting, which means all of this activity automatically shows up in your numbers. Even appointments booked through your Google buttons are tracked automatically, so you can see exactly how much business your online presence brings in.
Support and Onboarding
Every new Meevo account gets a dedicated implementation specialist who personally walks you through setup before you go live. By the time you switch over, your whole staff already knows how to use the system.
Once you’re running, support is live and US-based. You can reach the team by phone and live chat Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM ET and Saturday from 9 AM to 5:30 PM ET.
If you have a question in the middle of a busy day, you can talk to a person who genuinely knows the software, not a chatbot or an email ticket queue that can take days to get a response.
Meevo’s support holds a 98.5% satisfaction rating.

2. GlossGenius

GlossGenius is salon management software that covers booking, payments, marketing, and reporting in one system. It’s built primarily for solo professionals and smaller teams. Staff management only comes with the two higher plans, and the mid-tier Gold plan caps it at teams of fewer than ten.
GlossGenius’s reporting features:
- Preset reports: About ten built-in reports cover the fundamentals, including sales, expenses, commissions, inventory, staff performance, and a combined utilization and retention report.
- Analytics dashboard: A real-time dashboard tracks sales, staff performance, client retention rates, and booking utilization. You can also rank staff against each other by sales, ticket value, and retention.
- Growth Analyst: An AI assistant that scans your data daily to flag revenue opportunities and build custom reports. How much you can use depends on your plan.
For a solo stylist or a small team that wants simple, readable numbers without much setup, GlossGenius covers the essentials. But the limits show up as you grow: deeper team analytics and unlimited AI queries require the top plan, and every additional location pays for its own plan.
3. Vagaro

Vagaro is appointment management software aimed at small salons and solo professionals. Its reporting covers the basics, and at that size the basics are usually enough. Pricing runs per bookable calendar, which works well for a small team. Your business also gets a listing in Vagaro’s consumer marketplace, alongside other salons in your area.
Vagaro reporting features:
- Built-in reports: Roughly 30 reports organized into six categories: sales, employees, customers, appointments, inventory, and messaging and billing.
- Custom dashboard: A real-time view of your key numbers, like sales, appointments, and service provider performance, accessible from any device.
- Sales and booking-source reports: Sales are broken down by service, product, and gift card, and the Source Report shows where each booking came from, such as your website, Google, or Yelp.
Vagaro’s reports are fixed. You can filter by date, employee, or location, but you can’t change what a report measures. The retention report is a good example. Vagaro counts anyone who’s ever visited before as a returning client, and there’s no way to adjust that definition to match how your salon thinks about retention.
For a solo stylist or small salon, Vagaro is a sensible pick. Growing businesses will likely want deeper reports to base their decisions on.
4. Fresha

Fresha is booking and management software known for its low cost and its consumer marketplace. Pricing runs per bookable team member, and Fresha takes a one-time commission on new clients who find you through its marketplace. Reporting is included in every plan, though the deeper tools are paid add-ons.
Fresha’s reporting features:
- Built-in reports: 44 reports included with every plan and organized into four categories: sales, team performance, clients, and finances. Reports cover the standards, like sales over time, wages and commissions, client behavior and retention, and new versus returning clients.
- Insights add-on: A paid upgrade that adds eight more detailed reports and lets you build your own from scratch, so you can track numbers the standard reports don’t show. It also lets you control which reports each team member can see.
- Data Connector: A paid add-on that sends your Fresha data into external spreadsheets and BI systems, for businesses that want to run their own analysis outside the platform.
For a small salon watching costs, Fresha’s included reports cover the essentials. Businesses that want deeper or custom reports will need to upgrade. Even with the add-ons, the reporting depth is modest compared to what growing operations may need.
5. Zenoti
Zenoti is an all-in-one salon platform that covers booking, payments, and marketing, in addition to reporting. Its enterprise-level depth means it’s best suited for larger, multi-location businesses.
Zenoti’s reporting features:
- Built-in reports: Over 100 reports covering sales, staff performance, inventory management, clients, and finances. Within each report, you can filter, show or hide columns, and add columns with custom calculations.
- Real-time dashboards: Key performance indicators (KPI) dashboards track daily sales, retention, membership collections, and performance against monthly targets, with data broken out by location or across the whole business.
- Business insights and intelligence: Zenoti benchmarks your numbers against information from its network of businesses to support data-driven decisions, and its AI assistant can answer questions and pull reports on demand.
Zenoti’s depth does come with a learning curve. A recurring complaint across G2 and Capterra is that the platform’s reporting is complex and hard to navigate, and that custom or comprehensive reports can be difficult to build.
